my practice & experience
I have an acute understanding of the dynamics and diversity of pressured environments, families, relationships, friendships, values, beliefs, stress, anxiety and the drive to achieve something more, to fulfill potential, and what holds us back.
I trained to become a Counsellor & Psychotherapist because throughout my life I have expereienced highs, lows, and all the in between moments. Counselling & psychotherapy has always helped me process my feelings and make sense of what is going on in my internal and external worlds and enabled me to get through barriers and continue towards fullfilling my potential.
As a Humanistic Integrative Counsellor practising in Torquay, South Devon, my approach is holistic in style, looking at factors such as free will, creativity and human potential. Intuitively Person Centered, I naturally and warmly focus on what you bring and the ways in which you perceive yourself consciously, unconsciously and intuitively.
I recognise the quality of the therapeutic relationship more than any one particular theoretical approach, it is the most important aspect of successful therapeutic work. Counselling is help, and it happens in a safe, non-judgemental environment where together, in a strong safe theraputic relationship, we explore your thoughts, emotions, feelings and if you are willing find a new self awareness which is the catalyst to change.
I integrate my approach with other theories and philosophies such as Attachment, Psycho Social Development, Hierachy of Needs, Transactional Analysis, Gestalt, Logotherapy, Existentialism, Mindfullness and Trans Personalism. Ultimately, I work with you to establish an approach that you feel works for you. contact me
I have worked in charity and community settings providing counselling and psychotherapy services to people from many walks of life.
I have worked providing emotional support for victims of crime and have extensive experience of working within the Criminal Justice System in other roles. I have acted as an Independant Advocate for young people and have experience of working with young people on the Autistic Spectrum in these settings.
I am a registered member of the National Counselling & Psychotherapy Society and abide by their strict ethical framework
Counselling and Psychotherapy can be enlightening and liberating. It can help people become more self aware of the impact negative thoughts, feelings, events and relationships have. Exploring the origins of all this can help people understand why they feel the way they do and develop a deeper self awareness of their own needs and how to meet those needs.
Counselling and Psychotherapy can help people develop different ways of thinking and feeling which can help them better regulate their emotions, communicate more clearly to themselves and others and maintain a balanced integration of thinking and feeling. Being able to develop a stronger sense of self and live more in the here and now, with meaning and contentment can be a powerful and life changing outcome of Counselling and Psychotherapy. contact me
